Claims by IGN Entertainment revealed that Starcraft in their opinion is “one of, if not the best RTS game ever created” and Guinness Book of Records over time awarded the game “Largest Income in Professional Gaming”, “Largest Audience for a Game Competition” and “Best Selling PC Strategy Game” proving Starcraft to have intense popularity, extremely high ranking and to be the overall best RTS game worldwide.
The highly anticipated sequel Starcraft II is due to be the best RTS release for 2010 and is set to hit stores in three segments: Starcraft 2 – Wings of Liberty + 2 expansion packs, Heart of the Swarm & Legacy of the Void. It will feature the return of the original Protoss, Zerg & Terran races with new units and gameplay mechanics to further distinguish each race. Starcraft II will be more heavily focused on the multiplayer aspects with changes including a new competitive ladder system for ranked games, new matchmaking mechanics for matching players with equal skill levels & an overall improvement to the Battle.net mainframe.
Blizzard has stated that the new graphics engine used for starcraft 2′s gameplay is so advanced that the they “can actually create in-game cut-scenes of near-cinematic quality”. The development of Starcraft II was announced by Blizzard Entertainment back in may 2007 but is yet to confirm a definite release date, parent company Activision Blizzard anticipates Wings of Liberty to be released in the first half of 2010.
